Luminosity Optimization Feedback in the SLC
To optimize SLC luminosity, 5 correction
knobs/beam were used routinely - X/Y waist, X/Y
dispersion, coupling
Dithering procedure Feedback dithers knobs, 1
at a time, maximizes signal µ luminosity.
Results in factor of 5-10 improvement in
resolution of optimization. gtgt Increased
luminosity!

Improved Luminosity-dithering
Scan method of beam size vs knob measured with
deflection scan was limited by resolution and
poor reproducibility. Dither method maximizes
luminosity monitor, averaged over many pulses,
for much improved resolution and reproducibility.
