19Responsibility for Program
- All people involved with your program/show are
responsible for every facet of the program, i.e.
being present for your shift, arriving on time,
program material, what is said on the air, promos
being read, Underwriting/PSAs/Promos being aired,
and so on

21What do I do during breaks?
- A break is when you break into format/music to
talk, play underwriting, promos, PSAs, etc. - While we dont have a standard format for breaks,
we do have guidelines to assist you as you are
learning how to be a dj
22Break Guidelines
- A typical break proceeds this way
- Coming out of music, back announce all music that
was played since the last break - Plug/fore announce a few tunes coming up in the
next set of music if youre giving away tickets,
etc., mention that too! - Read Live Copy
- Play underwriting, promos, PSAs from the
automation system - Use a shotgun or live drop to go back into music
23Break Guidelines
- Pay attention! Dont let the underwriting,
promos and PSAs play before you talk automation
system should be in manual - Dont forget to ID the station somewhere in your
patter
24Mixing music
- Playing sequential tracks from a CD or an IPOD is
not good radio! - Good radio comes from the proper mix of the
appropriate music using - Crossfades
- Segues
- Up ramps/down ramps - talking over the beginning
and end of songs
25Back/Fore Announcing
- One of the biggest gripes radio listeners have is
that announcers dont tell them what songs they
have just played - Tell your listeners what you have just
playedback announcing--and what is coming
upfore announcing
26Weather Forecasts
- You are required to do one weather forecast per
hour, going into or coming out of the 30 break - Weather forecasts can be found at
