What is assessed?
  • Assessments are given in reading and mathematics
    at grades 4, 8, and 12. States and districts
    receiving Title I funding are required to
    participate in the reading and mathematics
    assessments at grades 4 and 8.
  • Other subjects also are assessed, but less often,
    at grades 4, 8, and/or 12 - writing, science,
    U.S. history, geography, etc.
  • States receive state and national results for
    grades 4 and 8 for Main NAEP years. Only
    national results are made available for grade 12
    assessments.
  • In years that are not Main NAEP, only national
    results are released for all assessed grade
    levels.

  • The academic performance of Americas students
    and the progress they are making over time
  • Achievement Levels Basic, Proficient, and
    Advanced
  • Average Scale Scores
  • Student Groups e.g., race/ethnicity, gender
  • Background and Contexts School, teacher, student

Details
  • Assessment window
  • January 22 March 2, 2007
  • (excluding week of state assessments)
  • District and campus staff members have already
    completed many of the activities leading up to
    the administration.
  • NAEP field staff send out pre-assessment packets
    to school coordinators in early January and make
    arrangements for a pre-assessment meeting.
  • NAEP staff members conduct the administration on
    each campus.
  • Math and reading results for the state will be
    issued in Fall 2007 for grades 4 and 8. Writing
    results for grade 8 and grade 12 results are
    expected to be released in late Spring/early
    Summer, 2008.
