• Which brand of gum has longer lasting flavor?
• November/December 2004

Hypothesis

• My hypothesisI hypothesize that Juicy Fruits
  flavor will last longer than the other brands
  because it says now with longer taste on the
  package.
• How will I test this?I will test how long the
  flavor of each brand lasts by chewing each brand
  of gum until the flavor is gone.
• How will I make this a fair experiment?I will
  taste test each brand four times, time how long
  the flavor lasts, and then record the results.

Materials

• 4 3.5g pieces of Juicy Fruit gum
• 4 8g pieces of Bubble Yum gum
• 4 8g pieces of Bubblicious gum
• 1 pencil
• 1 notebook
• 1 clock
• 1 calculator
• Notes and instructions
• Triple beam balance

Procedure

• Take Bubble Yum gum piece and remove the wrapper.
• Put gum in mouth and start chewing begin timer
  and record start time.
• Chew until taste is gone and record end time.
• Now take the end time and subtract the start time
  to get the number of minutes the flavor lasted.
• Repeat steps 1-4 with other brands of gum.
• Repeat this experiment 4 times with each brand.

Conclusion (Part One)

• So was my hypothesis right?My hypothesis was
  proven right. The flavor of Juicy Fruit gum
  lasted the longest in all four of my tests.
• What did I learn?I learned that Juicy Fruit
  brands flavor lasts longer than Bubble Yum and
  Bubblicious while doing this experiment.

Conclusion (Part Two)

• Any recommendations?
• I recommend Juicy Fruit brand of gum because in
  all four of my experiments, Juicy Fruit gum
  lasted the longest for flavor out of Bubble Yum
  and Bubblicious.
• Would You Change Anything?
• Next time I would change the brands of gum I
  choose and get ones with the same amount of grams
  in each piece to see if it would change my answer.

Conclusion (Part Three)

• Any errors?
• My source of error was that I couldnt chew each
  piece at the same speed. This would cause the
  flavor to disappear faster or slower depending on
  the speed the gum was chewed.
• Any Problems?
• When doing this experiment, I had a problem with
  chewing each piece at the same speed and chewing
  gum all day, because it made my jaw sore.

Conclusion ( Part Four)

• Was this a fair experiment?
• This was a fair experiment. The chewing speed
  probably did not affect the final conclusion
  because the amount of time the flavor lasted in
  each test was so far apart.
• What is your new question?
• A new question I now have is, will Juicy Fruits
  flavor last longer than other brands of gum
  (other than Bubble Yum and Bubblicious)?
