2
Initial Robot
  • Odor Detector and Destroyer - Twitter Robot
    (ODD-TR)

3
Issues
  • Lack of odor detector sensors
  • Cost of robot

Get MAD
  • Get Me A Drink!!!

6
What is Get MAD
  • Get MAD is a prototype vending machine robot that
operates on Radio Frequency Identification (RFID)
    commands.

7
Basic Operation
  • Receives RFID signal from a unique RFID card
which contains information about the drink to
    vend.
  • Navigates to the correct vending tower.
  • Triggers the vend switch.
  • Receives the drink.
  • Returns back to deliver drink.

8
Sensors
  • Sonar
  • Bump Switches
  • Infrared (IR) Sensors
  • Radio Frequency Identification (RFID)

9
Sonar
  • Obstacle Avoidance
  • A sonar sensor is placed on the front for
    Obstacle Avoidance.

10
Bump Switches
  • Trigger vending
  • A switch is located at the base of every vending
    tower.
  • When triggered, it starts the vending process

11
Bump Switches
  • Weight Sensor
  • The drink holder is situated on top of another
    bump switch.
  • Once the drink is delivered into the holder, the
switch is triggered and the robot begins its
    return to base.

12
Infrared (IR) Sensor
  • Line Tracking
  • Three infrared sensors are placed at the bottom
of the robot for line tracking.
  • Each one of them must be on top of the line for
the robot to be on course.

13
Infrared (IR) Sensor
  • Intersection and Destination Detection
  • A fourth IR sensor will be used as an eye for
    detecting an intersection.
  • This sensor will also be responsible for
detecting the stop point for vending.

14
Special Sensor
  • Radio Frequency Identification (RFID)

16
RFID Sensor
  • Drink Selection
  • An RFID card will inform the robot of what drink
    to vend.

17
RFID Sensor
  • Tower Sensing
  • Every tower is equipped with an RFID card that
complements the Drink Selection RFID card.
  • If the RFID matches, the robot recognizes what
    tower to vend from.

Current Sensor Status
  • Infrared Line Tracking working
  • Bump Switches for vending working
  • Sonar for obstacle avoidance needs to be
    implemented
  • RFID Not yet functional

20
Project Status
  • 85 complete
  • Remaining Tasks
  • Get vending towers working
  • Get RFID working
  • Get Sonar working

IR Code Summary
  • 3 IR eyes
  • Each returns a value of 0 if over white surface
    and 1 if over black.
  • 111 equals on course
  • 000 equals completely off course
  • Remembers previous code in order to bring robot
back on track from a 000 reading

24
RFID Current
  • 2 tags on hand
  • One tag 0 the other 1
  • Possible combinations go from 00-11
  • User black dots to calculate tower position

25
RFID Future
  • Multiple tags
  • A tag mounted on each tower as ID
  • A free tag for each tower for selection
