Title: Creating a multicultural classroom

1
Creating a multicultural classroom
2
Introduction
  • Discovering diversity takes creativity, effort,
diligence, and courage on the teachers part.
The American public schools hardly offer a happy
welcome for student differences and this is what
is needed most for a multicultural classroom to
have a strong foundation in growth and
    development.

3
  • These differences will command hard work, an open
mind, acceptance, and resolution. Teachers who
address these differences in the classroom will
succeed in creating a multicultural classroom and
promote the educational goals of each student.

4
Openness
  • Teachers must be active in and out of the
classroom and open to why each student does what
they do. If teacher is hesitant to be open in
the classroom, then the students are likely to
become separated from themselves and teacher.
  • To be open, the teacher must be ready to learn.
Be fearless, willing to try new and diverse
    things.
  • Teachers need to be sure of themselves and
    non-judgmental.

5
Know the learning patterns of students
  • Each culture is different and knowing what each
childs background is could help avoid a culture
    clash in the classroom.
  • Teachers who can open themselves up to the
cultural differences will be able to openly and
successfully handle the culture clash in their
    classroom.
  • If a teacher creates and open class, the class
will have open lines of communication and promote
    a positive learning environment.

6
Language differences
  • If a teacher can learn only a few words of the
students language, that can express respect for
the students culture and can increase the
    students self-esteem.
  • Introduce all languages of each culture in the
classroom. This will say that each culture in
    important.
  • Incorporate different cultures everyday, not just
    on special occasions.

7
Conclusion
  • Turning the classroom into a multicultural
classroom is a rising priority. It opens up your
classroom for communication and increases the
knowledge of each student. Embracing these
differences can be not only good for the student,
    but the teachers as well.
