BASIN PROPERTIES
  • The area studied is the European part of Turkey,
the Thrace region (Figure 1) located between
    40o-42o N and 26o-29o E. The region is bordered
by the Black Sea to the North, the Marmara Sea
and Aegean Sea to the South, Greece to the West
and Bulgaria to the Northwest. The area of the
    region is 24 760 km2

Geology

Ground Water
  • Aquifer between in Turkey and Greece at Meric
    (Evros)
  • Drainage Basin
  • Kalker (Alluvial) Based aquifer drainage through
the MeriƧ (Evros) river that between (border)
Turkey and Greece. Aquifer drains water through
    the Greece side.

Data of Monitored Quality
Data Monitoring Regularly (DSI) Water
Quality Regularly (DSI) Because this
observation wells are using for municipalities
(drinking water) - irrigation purposes
- industrial uses

Conclussions
  • Water level in the mentioned area getting lower
    because of increasing water needs
  • Water sharing is getting decrease because of this
reason with Greece (hydraulic gradient reducing)
  • Salt water intrusion become important at the
    delta of MeriƧ
