What is the Internet?
The Internet is a worldwide network of computers
all linked by telephone. It is a dynamic medium,
constantly changing. WWW stands for World Wide
Web. Websites have addresses (URLs) so that you
can find them. A bit like a telephone directory.
I.e. www.bristolzoo.co.uk A web page is like a
book page but adds a new dimension. It may use
sound, animation and music.

Is it Safe?
NO!
The Internet is an open space where anyone can
post web pages or promote their views.
Your school networks have a flitering system that
will not allow certain websites or words to be
used in searches. It is not 100 safe.
Use the checklist for safe use and ensure your
children know what to do if they come across
anything unusual.

Search engines like alta vista, google or yahoo
allow you to search the net for specific topics
using keywords.

Decide who will use it?
Is it for your own use? Is it for whole class
teaching? Is it for childrens independent use?
Is it from a reputable source? Is it clear and
easy to use? Is it relevant to the lesson
objectives? Does it offer you something better
than traditional media?

1. Click on this Button
2. The Favourites area will be shown on screen

and allow children to locate them too.
