2
Outstanding Items
  • Complete drafts in progress get published as RFC.
  • Security.
  • Congestion.

3
IETF vs ITU-T Scope
  • What is the IETF Scope in this area and what is
    the ITU-T scope?
  • Both PWE3 and ITU-T have duplicated efforts on PW
  • IETF is the design authority for IP and MPLS
  • Work is needed on PW inter-working which not a
    traditional IETF work area
  • Resolution of scope is an IETF policy issue.

4
PWE3 Phase Two requirements
  • Focus to date has been SPs who wanted todeploy
greenfield converged services networks as opposed
to augmenting existing services. Early adopters
did not have traditional service, and were
wishing to offer it in competition to the
incumbent, or wished to restrict CAPEX expense on
    traditional equipment.
  • New requirements emerging from incumbents that
wish to migrate to a converged MPLS core.
  • Must establish if there are any enterprise
    requirements.

5
Encapsulations
  • There are some issues concerning transparency
  • FCS
  • MPLS PWs header translations
  • Need to add HDLC PPP

6
SPVC interworking
  • Most networks require a migration process from
    traditional to PW.
  • It is clear from the list that this is an area
    that needs to be addressed.
  • Significant debate on the list regarding PWE3
competence and IETF scope in this area.
