5
Properties in Fractions
  • Numerator is the number of parts chosen.
  • Numerator
  • Denominator
  • Denominator is the total number of parts.

6
Adding Fractions
  • Adding same denominator fractions
  • When adding same denominator fractions, the only
thing that will be different is the numerator.
  • The denominator are always the same in addition.
We do not add the denominators.

7
Adding Continue
  • Different denominators must be changed to same
denominators before one can add them together.

8
Adding Continue
  • Mixed Fractions
  • Mixed fractions are a combination of a whole
    number and a fraction.

9
Subtracting Fractions
  • Subtracting fractions with same denominator is
just like adding same denominator fractions.

10
Subtractions Continue
  • Different denominators must always be the same.
So just make sure the denominators are the same
    and start subtracting.

11
Subtractions Continue
  • Mixed Numbers still must have the same
denominator then you can subtract them.

12
Multiplying Fractions
  • When you multiply fractions, the numerator are
multiply then your denominators are multiplied
    together.

13
Multiplying Continue
  • Mixed numbers are easier when you change them
    into fractions then multiply them.

14
Multiplying Continue
  • Reducing the fractions are the same as with
adding and subtracting fraction. How many times
    will 7 go into 24?

15
Dividing Fractions
  • When we divide fractions, we flip the divisor
which is called the reciprocal. Then you
    multiply across.

16
Division Continue
  • When there are mixed numbers involved
  • 1. Put them into fractions
  • 2. Flip the reciprocal
  • 3. Then multiply

17
Dividing Continue
  • Reducing the fraction into simplest form and
    back into a mixed number.
