Vegetative propagation

  methods of propagating plants.

Runners

• Some plants produce plantlets at the end of long
  stems that run along the ground.
• The plantlets will get food and water from the
  parent plant until they have grown roots into
  the soil.
• Then the stem will wither away and the plantlet
  will grow on its own.

Plantlets

• Some plantlets grow on the edges of leaves, like
  this Mexican hat plant.
• Others grow as side shoots (offsets) at the
  base of the parent plant. The offsets can be
  separated from the parent and planted.
