Title: Meiosis v's' Mitosis

1
Meiosis v.s. Mitosis
2
Mitosis
  • Interphase period of rest. Chromosomes create
    copies of themselves.
  • Prophase - Chromosomes condense (orient singly),
    nuclear envelope disappears. Spindle forms,
    spindle fibers attach to chromosomes.
  • Metaphase - Chromosomes move to center of cell.
  • Anaphase - Chromatids separate.
  • Telophase - Chromosomes gather at poles, nuclear
envelope forms. division of cytoplasm, cell plate
    formed in plants.

Meiosis
  • Interphase DNA replicates, Chromosomes
    duplicate
  • Prophase Chromosomes condense (orient paired
and cross over), Spindle and spindle fibers form
    and attach to chromosomes.
  • Metaphase Chromosomes move to center of cell.
  • Anaphase Chromosomes segregate (paired).
  • Telophase Cell splits into two separate cells.
  • Metaphase II Chromosomes move to center of cell
    and spindle fibers attach.
  • Anaphase II Chromosomes separate singly.
  • Telophase II Cells separate and form 4 new
    cells.

Difference Between Meiosis and Mitosis
  • Meiosis is only performed in sex cells. (Sperm
    and Egg).
  • Meiosis makes 4 new cells with ¼ the amount of
    chromosomes as the parent cell.
