Title: Welcome to the
1Welcome to the Advanced Manufacturing
Technologies forHydrogen Energy SystemsProgram
Workshops
- Sponsored by
- The National Center for Manufacturing Sciences
- The U. S. Department of Energy
- (Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable
Energy The Hydrogen, Fuel Cells Infrastructure
Technologies Program)
2This is NCMS
- Organized under the National Cooperative Research
Act (NCRA) of 1984 formed in 1986 - Largest cross-industry collaborative RD
consortium in North America - Devoted to manufacturing technologies, process,
and practices - Nearly two decades of experience in the formation
and management of complex multi-partner
collaborative RD programs
3NCMS Mission
- The NCMS mission is to lead the rapid
development of cross-industry RD programs to
build the global competitiveness of its
manufacturing industry partners.
4This is NCMS
- Core competency Catalyst for Technology
Collaborations - Provides neutral third party facilitation of
intellectual property management, project
management, and collaboration agreements - Research development activities are conducted
through the leveraged resources of its members
and participants
5This is NCMS
- Corporate dues paying members represent virtually
every sector of the manufacturing community - Staffed internally with a diverse array of
technical and administrative capabilities - Headquartered in Ann Arbor, MI with an offices in
Washington, D.C. and Bremerton, Washington

8NCMS/DoE Program Advanced Manufacturing
Technologies for Hydrogen Energy Systems (AMT-HES)
- NCMS partnering with
- The U. S. Department of Energy
- Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy
- The Hydrogen, Fuel Cells Infrastructure
Technologies Program
9DoE Program Objectives
- Working with DOE and the private sector, identify
and develop critical manufacturing technology
assessments vital to the affordable manufacturing
of hydrogen-powered systems. - Leverage technologies from other industrial
sectors and work with our extensive industrial
membership base to do feasibility projects on
those manufacturing technologies identified as
key to reducing the cost of the targeted
hydrogen-powered systems.
10Approach
- Identify Manufacturing Hurdles to
Hydrogen-Powered and Storage Systems - Rank as to impact for producing affordable
structures - Institute collaborative development projects that
address the manufacturing technology issues
deemed of highest impact. - Provide a clearinghouse of information to promote
technology utilization
11Workshop Objectives
- Each workshop will focus on defining near-term
opportunities in the 2-5 year range for
application-oriented manufacturing technology
development for Hydrogen Storage (Day 1) and
Hydrogen Fuel Cells (Day 2) Systems. - Workshops will identify and prioritize key
manufacturing technology enablers needed to
achieve production volume ramp-up and production
affordability in systems. The key manufacturing
issues will then help drive the NCMS
collaborative RD project agenda for its AMT-HES
program.
