WHY WASH YOUR HANDS?
  • Hand-washing is the single most important
    procedure for preventing the spread of biological
    contamination (www.stanford.edu/dept/ehs)
  • Lack of proper handwashing causes the spread
    germs that can cause illnesses such as the common
    colds and flu.

What are Germs and how do they form?
  • Germs are tiny organisms that can cause disesase.
    Germs are so small and sneaky, that they creep
    into our system without being noticed.

  • 4 types of Germs
  • Bacteria
  • Viruses
  • Fungi
  • Protozoa
  • Germs invade us because they cant live on their
    own and they make us sick

How do you wash your hands?
  • Steps
  • Turn water on with paper towel
  • Wet your hands and wrists
  • Work soap into lather
  • Vigorously rub together lathered hands for at
    least 15 seconds
  • Rinse hands thoroughly with hands downwards to
    prevent further contamination
  • Dry hands completely with a clean paper towel
  • Use paper towel to clean off faucet

Other ways of stopping Germs
  • Cover your mouth when sneezing and coughing
  • Dont put unwashed hands in your mouth
  • ALWAYS wash hands after using the restroom and
    before eating especially if you have been outside
    playing!
  • Be aware of where and what you touch in public
    places!
