True Believer
2- Philippians 31-3

Who is the true child of God?
Joy in the Christian Life
3The Command Rejoice in the Lord (v. 1)
- Joy is different from Happiness
- Happiness is temporary feeling of well being
associated with an event
- Joy is a settled feeling of well being associated
with a relationship with God.
Because it is a command, Joy should be a
characteristic of the true believer.

9The Warning Beware of the Religious False
Teachers (v. 2)
- Three Characteristics of the Religious False
Teacher..Paul says, Beware of the.
- 1. Dogs - Jews used to call Gentiles dogs
because they were considered unclean and they
shamelessly attacked the truth. Now Paul turns
the table on the Jews and says they are the ones
who are unclean and shamelessly attack the truth.
10The Warning Beware of the Religious False
Teachers (v. 2)
- Three Characteristics of the Religious False
Teacher..Paul says, Beware of the.
- 2. Evil workers. The religious Jews prided
themselves on being workers of righteousness.
Even though they may have done good things, good
things done with the idea that you can earn your
way to heaven is based in pride not godliness
(for all our works are as filthy rags it says in
Isaiah), thus it is wickedness.
11The Warning Beware of the Religious False
Teachers (v. 2)
- 3. The mutilation. Paul doesnt call them the
circumcision but the concision or mutilation.
Circumcision was meant by God to be an outward
symbol of an inward reality the need for the
cleansing of sin in our bodies. The Jews had
taken that outward sign as the proof they were
part of Gods covenant family. Now they were
adding that on to Christs sacrifice as a
requirement of salvation. Rom. 228, Gal 511-12
- What would Paul say today to anyone who wanted to
add works to Christs sacrifice for sin as a
means of salvation?
12The Exhortation Examine yourselves to see that
you are in the Faith (v. 3)
- Three things characterize the true circumcision,
or What marks a true believer
- 1. Worship in the Spirit of God. If I'm a
Christian, the Spirit is in me and if the Spirit
is in me, then He is prompting me to worship. And
so I'll have a heart of adoration and a heart of
praise and a heart that longs to serve God from
the inside out.
13The Exhortation Examine yourselves to see that
you are in the Faith (v. 3)
- Three things characterize the true circumcision,
or What marks a true believer
- 2. Glory in Christ Jesus. When you're a true
Christian all your boasting is going to be in
Christ because all the credit belongs to Him.
- 3. Humility -The true believer puts no confidence
in the flesh, he knows nothing good comes out of
it. We are saved by Gods Grace, and only
through the same grace are we sanctified. Jude
