  • 58 Community Colleges in the System
  • System began in early 1960s
  • Basic Skills/Adult Education is housed in CC
    system
  • Funding is 25 state funding and 75 state
  • 55 of all students are in Adult Basic Education
  • 18 of all students are in Adult Secondary
  • 27 are in English as a Second Language
  • The Community College System is the leading
    provider of workforce and occupational skills
    training in NC

How to set up a 4-tier advisement program
  • Bring appropriate persons together to discuss
    (top administrators,curriculum instructors,
    student services staff, preparatory instructors,
    basic skills staff, etc.)
  • Achieve a commitment from everyone to being
    student-centered, not FTE (funding) driven
  • Chose the option which will work best for your
    school
  • Order/set up instructional materials
  • Develop communication channels for the program
  • Develop a tool for evaluation and revision of the
    program
