The Idea
  • Have 12 FTE under the control of the Applications
    Coordinators in order to
  • Work with science drivers to understand their
    application needs, and derive required
enhancements of the capabilities of OSG, or of
the way the applications use the OSG.
  • The scope goes beyond just services to be
deployed on the OSG infrastructure, and includes
general tools required for applications to get
    their science done on OSG.
  • Work with middleware providers on specs,
    development, testing, hardening, and applications
    integration.

3
Initial Focus Areas
  • Data Storage Access Management
  • VO specific services management use
  • Advanced Workload and Workflow Management,
    Planning and Execution
  • Security enhancements
  • Advanced network integration services
  • Be prepared for focus to change as OSG user
    community grows in diversity!

4
Goals for first 18 months
  • Deliver role-based authorization and access
control for storage for widespread deployment.
Make sure that at least ATLAS, CMS, LIGO, plus
one other benefit in day-to-day ops.
  • Deliver SRM v2 that is widely deployed. Make sure
that at least ATLAS, CMS, LIGO, CDF, D0, SDSS,
plus one other benefit in day-to-day ops.
  • Specify, develop, and deliver limited
    functionality VO specific services management
infrastructure ready for widespread deployment in
the facility. Make sure that at least ATLAS, CMS,
D0, plus one other benefit in day-to-day ops.
  • Specify, develop, and deliver a first generation
audit system ready for widespread deployment in
    the facility.

5
Goals for first 18 months (cont.)
  • Deliver a wms that supports late binding and
opportunistic job scheduling. Make sure that at
least ATLAS, CMS, plus one other benefit in their
    day-to-day ops.
  • Deliver an enhanced version of VDS which is fully
SRM aware, and capable of benefiting from the
deployed storage infrastructure on the OSG. Make
sure that at least LIGO, SDSS, DES, and GADU can
incorporate this system into their day-to-day
    ops.
  • Deliver specs and a first large scale prototype
system that allows integration of network
management tools into the distributed facility.

6
Goals for second 18 months
  • Expand new capabilities beyond the initial sets
    of stakeholders.
  • Focus significant effort on understanding
robustness, reliability, efficiency, and ease of
operations issues for the new capabilities.
  • Deliver a first production system that introduces
new network management tools into the distributed
    facility.
  • Deliver the final auditing system for the
remainder of the 5 year funding period of
  • Expect to work with new communities of their
    needs etc.
