  • The attendees will be able to describe the
    necessity for practice accreditation and its
    influence on the PIP

Practice accreditation
  • The Accreditation process is a review process
    based on The Royal Australian College of General
    Practitioner (RACGP) Standards for General
    Practice (3rd Ed.).
  • Funds provided by RACGP members are used to
    develop the standards-Compliance to these
    standards is peer driven.
  • Voluntary Practice based process-the practice is
    charged a fee.
  • Aims to provide a pathway for quality improvement

Practice accreditation
  • Quality in care can be described in terms of
    structure, process and outcomes.
  • Structure relates to material resources,
    facilities, equipment and the range of services
    provided
  • Process relates to what is done in giving and
    receiving care (e.g. consultations, ordering
    tests, or prescribing
  • Outcomes related to the effects of care on pts
    and communities (e.g. immunisation coverage,
    diabetes management, cervical screening)

Practice accreditation
  • The General Practice registers for accreditation
    with 1 of 2 recognised organisations- AGPAL or
    GP Accreditation plus.
  • The cycle of accreditation includes
  • self assessment against the agreed standards
  • peer review survey ( practice visit)
  • commencement of a continuous quality improvement
    cycle
  • (PDSA Plan Do study Act)
  • Once registered for accreditation the practice
    can access the PIP.
  • Accreditation review occurs every 3 years.
