• How do we remember the Pacific War?

The Purpose

• To help students understand Pearl Harbor and the
  Pacific War from a wider range of perspectives
  than is typically taught in classrooms.

Essential Questions

• How does nationality, gender and race affect what
  events are forefront in a peoples memory?
• How do these concepts affect how events are
  remembered?
• How do people memorialize these major historical
  events?

Reading

• In groups students divide up images readings
  concerning the Pacific War from a variety of
  perspectives
• Japanese American
• Japanese-American Women
• Black or Korean Hawaiian

The Basics

• Students read and react to these materials to
  demonstrate their understanding.
• Drawing Poetry
• Summary The 5 senses
• Emotions involved Write a letter
• Write a follow-up diary entry
• Create a soundtrack to accompany the
  reading/image

Discussion

• Students discuss their chosen articles with those
  who have the same one (color or number code the
  materials)
• Teacher produced questionaire/chart for
  information and questions for counterparts in
  Japan/America.
• 4 rotations
• American, Japanese, 2 other perspectives
• Return to group and report on your article after
  each rotation.

E-mail

• Get to Know You e-mails during read and react
  period
• Share information learned and questions
  concerning the read and react materials.

Powerpoint

• Create a powerpoint of various war or other
  memorials in your country to share with your
  counterparts.

Joint War Memorial

• Create a joint Pacific War Memorial with your
  counterparts to include sitting, design, words
  and architecture.
