Title: Simulations to Assess RF Phase and Amplitude Sensitivities

1
Simulations to Assess RF Phase and Amplitude
Sensitivities
  • Mike Church, FNAL

2
Method
  • Basic question How are beam arrival time and
beam energy affected by RF phase and amplitude
    stability?
  • Using MAD8.23
  • Started with Bunch Compressor and Linac lattice
    files on SLAC web site
  • 150A, 150B, 300A, 300B options
  • Was able to duplicate plots shown on BC web site
  • Main Linac cavities are all phased at -5.1 deg
  • Was able to duplicate files sent by PT last month
  • So far, phase and amplitude errors have all been
    generated coherently
  • ie., entire Bunch Compressor or Linac phase or
    amplitude fluctuates together
  • This is equivalent to a global LLRF phase
reference fluctuating or a global amplitude
    reference fluctuating
  • I think this is the worst case

Some Results

Further Plans
  • Calculate IP arrival time and energy sensitivity
    to
  • BC klystron phases fluctuating independently
  • BC cavity phases fluctuating independently
  • Linac klystron phases fluctuating independently
  • Linac cavity phases fluctuating independently
