Molecular Recognition between Liposomes
Liposomes, which are close analogs of cells, are
employed in molecular recognition experiments
simulating the behaviour of cells or used as drug
delivery systems. Our laboratory is currently
investigating both areas, highlighting in the
modification of the external surface of liposomes
for conducting molecular recognition experiments
and also developing efficient drug delivery
systems which combine stability, targeting and
transporting properties. Liposomal formulations
are characterized by Atomic Force and Optical
Microscopies coupled with image processing
techniques, dynamic light scattering,
z-potential, and various spectroscopic methods
while the thermodynamics of liposomal
interactions are investigated by
microcalorimetric methods.
