Title: Tuning the magnetic properties of nanoparticles
1Tuning the magnetic properties of nanoparticles
Gavin Lawes Department of Physics and
Astronomy Wayne State University
The magnetic properties of nanoparticles are
largely determined by the product of their volume
(V) and intrinsic magnetocrystalline anisotropy
(K) through the expression TBKV, where TB is the
magnetic freezing temperature.
xTB
Control of magnetic properties by independently
changing V and K.
xTB
5 nm
CoxFe3-xO4
We can controllably increase TB by a factor of
two by tuning the size of the nanoparticles.
We can increase K by doping with Co, which
increases TB
GOAL To develop techniques to simultaneously
tune the dielectric properties of the
nanoparticles.
