• Strength of net magnetic field felt at a distance
  depends on three variables
• Number of coils
• Current running through coils
• Distance from coil to detector
• Implication To maximize the strength of the
  electromagnet, concentrate the coils as close as
  possible to the desired location

• Two possible ways to drive an electromagnet
• Digital H-Bridge configuration
• Advantage All digital, easy programming
• Disadvantage Pulse Width Modulation required
  for increased angular precision
• Analog Push-Pull Transistor configuration with
  power op-amp
• Advantage Direct signal variability
• Disadvantage More complicated programming

Current Issues

• Precise position control of rotor
• Send disk to closest 45 degree angle without
  overshooting
• Determine variable control by plotting position
  displacement vs. voltage variation in adjacent
  electromagnets
