1APA Citation
2Two Parts to Citations
- In text
- References (on their own page but given a page
number along with your report)
3Sample
4In Text
There are three basic ways to cite a source in
text.
5One
I can use the authors last name and date of
publication in parenthesis within my text.
A recent survey of freshman students found that
most students would prefer to start school later
in the day (Reickard, 2005).
6Two
Or I can use the name directly and put the date
in parenthesis.
Reickard (2005) states that most freshmen would
prefer to start school later in the day.
7Three
Or I can write about the study in my paragraph.
In 2005, Reickard conducted a study proving that
freshman students would prefer to start school
later in the day.
8- If you only use part of a source include the page
numbers in the in text documentation. Example
(Reickard, 2005, p. 5) or (Reickard, 2005, pp.
5-23) or (Reickard, 2005, chap. 5) - If there is no author you would use the first few
main words of the title or the name of the
company or corporation that authored the work.
9References
- Every source that you refer to in your paper
needs to be listed - The reference page is started on a new page. The
title of the page is References. The title
References, is entered with a capital R at the
beginning but the rest of the letters are lower
case. References is centered at the top of the
page.
