3OFFICE SPACE IN PREVESSIN
- AMS is allocated 33 offices/labs in buildings 892
and 974 on the Prevessin site, around 528 square
meters - 3 (82 sq. m.) still to be vacated by other groups
4Office Barrack 974
- 16 Offices - 205 square meters
5Office Building 892 Ground Floor Wing B
- 17 offices 322.5 square meters
6- In addition we are occupying a first floor office
in wing B of 892 and we have 1-001 as a lab - If used almost entirely as offices these two
buildings could hold just over 100 people during
installation - ( 5 square meters/person)
7POCC and SOCC Building 892 basement Wing A
- Approximately 283 square meters
- Controlled access by magnetic card
- AMS computers now in green area
8Building 867 _at_ CERN Floor Plan
AMS Area
9Presently occupied area in 867
10Crane Coverage in 867
11Cranes in 867
- Large 30T crane covers whole West half of hall.
Need special training and license to operate it.
Hook height 6.89m - 5T crane which covers same area as 30T
- 10T crane covers integration area from central
door to North end of building. Hook height 5.0m.
Normal CERN crane license to operate.
12Cranes in 867
- Cranes are shared with other users in building
- During L3 muon chamber integration we were
allowed to use the 30T crane after special
training, but not the remote control - We were charged for overtime work by CERN crane
operators - We will buy a new crane for use inside the clean
room. Will use existing rail system.
13Present layout in 867 integration area
14Assembly Area
- 350 sqaure meters was promised to AMS at the
beginning of February - The remaining 150 square meters, occupied by the
Atlas clean room, would be available at the end
of April
- Building 867 available for AMS
- Entire area is not available until end of April
2006! - Need to organize building a proper Clean Room
NOW!!
15Schedule to free Hall
- Atlas people should move to hall 175, which is
not yet ready - J.-L. denBlyden and Atlas say they can move in
March, and the whole area can be cleared for the
end of April - Schedule will show that this MUST happen without
further delay
16Schedule for Offices in 892
- J.-L. denBlyden says he will also free the labs
occupied by St. Petersburg (R-B01) and ETH (R-B07
and R-B11) by the end of April - He will prepare space for them in the basement of
wing B

desired length and how it is divided - This layout can also be fitted with a TRANS
CYCLE control. The TRANS CYCLE control is not
mobile, but nonetheless somewhat lighter and
easier to handle.

27Responsible People
- Joe Burger
- Ensure that Assembly Hall and Offices Spaces are
ready per Schedule - Order all necessary components and oversee hall
fabrication - Gert Viertel
- Develop Assembly Hall plans and work with Burger
to ensure components are ordered in a timely
manner - ??

Trent Martin CERN Jan. 2006
29New Integration Lead
- NASA has chosen an Integration Lead who will be
our representative as a Payload Integration and
Test (PIT) Manager - Ken Bollweg
- Will begin working for AMS on February 13
- Plans to live and work in Culham and Geneva
during integration and testing work for AMS - Many others from NASA/JS team will travel to
integration/testing locations as needed
30PIT Managers Responsibilities
- Develop AMS Build Book
- Develop Hardware Receiving Control Process
- Develop Assembly and Testing Process
- Workmanship Standards
- Non-conforming Materials Process
- Assembly Process
- Master Integration Schedule
- Testing Process
- Test Schedules will be coordinated with test
leads - Develop Quality Safety Inspection Plan
Process - Develop Detailed Tool List Control Plan
- This will identify the common tools to be
provided as part of the facility and specialized
tools to be provided by each detector team - This process has already begun with a plan to
have a fairly comprehensive Build Book before the
USS arrives for STA Integration (Dec. 2006) - We ask for you support to ensure that this
process payload assembly and testing is as
efficient as possible
