4Other Major Factors
- A 6-7 versus a 5-6 school
- Social/emotional readiness (i.e., kids not
growing up too fast) - A 6-7 school is closer to being a true middle
school than a 5-6 school - New Jersey mandated testing model is grades 3-5,
6-8, and 11 - Elementary teaching certification is now only K-5
and not K-8 - State mandated curricula is written grades K-5,
6-8, and 9-12 - Limited room at the Jr./Sr. High School for
elementary population that is aging up (e.g., 149
graduating seniors being replaced by 225 incoming
7th graders)
