About the Author and Illustrator

• Author and illustrator John Steptoe has written
  and illustrated many books for children.
  Mufaros Beautiful Daughters received several
  awards, including the Boston Globe-Horn Book
  Award for illustration and the Coretta Scott King
  Award. It was also named a Caldecott Honor Book.
  His book The Story of Jumping Mouse was also a
  Caldecott Honor Book.
