In this Lecture Wet Lab you will rotate through
stations that provide you with the essential
training to take your dentistry to the next level
Surgical extractions which are indicated for
canine teeth, multi-rooted teeth, teeth with root
resorption, fractured deciduous teeth, impacted
teeth and removal of fractured roots. This
technique requires a mucoperiosteal flap, tooth
sectioning, bone removal, individual luxation of
roots, alveloplasty and closure of the extraction
site. If one follows the principles of proper
extraction technique this will minimize the
frequency of the complications, reduce time of
the procedure, improving healing and comfort to
the patient.
Dental nerve blocks have become an essential
component in the overall pain management of the
oral surgery/dental patient in veterinary
medicine. When combined with general anesthesia,
regional nerve blocks provide analgesia prior to
oral surgery or pre-emptively. Pre-emptive
analgesia will reduce the amount of general
anesthetic needed to maintain a surgical plane of
anesthesia. This reduction decreases the
occurrence of hypotension, bradycardia,
hypoventilation and other adverse effects of
inhalant anesthetics. Moreover, when combined
with narcotics and non-steroidal
anti-inflammatory drugs, local anesthetics reduce
post operative pain and improve healing. Overall
the patient benefits in terms of safety and while
the client becomes more willing to allow future
procedures if their pets recovery is smooth and
pain free.
Dental Radiography Intra-oral radiographs are an
essential part of a comprehensive oral
examination and have become a key element in the
diagnosis and formulation of a pets dental
treatment plan. Yes teeth can be cleaned and
polished without radiographic images, but a
complete periodontal assessment and treatment
cannot be performed without intraoral radiography.
The Webster facility is located just north of the
Palace of Auburn Hills on the right side of
Lapeer Road. The branch is located in an
industrial park, 2nd building on the left.
