• Can be programmed to behave as many different

• Code must be used to achieve this

• Characteristics and behaviors of devices must be

• Use Hardware Description Languages (HDL)
• Verilog HDL and VHDL

• Similar to C/C Programming Language
• Fairly easy to learn with a programming
  background
• Used with major Logic Design tools
