13PROJECT ECOBUS LIFE - Environment 2002
System of withdrawal and recycling of vegetable
oils of domestic use for its reutilization as
biocombustible in the public fleet of buses in
the municipality of Valencia

Programme LIFE-Environment www.europa.eu.int/comm
/environment/life
14Objectives
PROJECT ECOBUS
- The main objective is the elimination of used
cooking oils that are generated in a great scale
at the city of Valencia (Spain) and to employ
them in substitution of more polluting
combustibles, reducing the emission of CO2 in
public transport. - The project is intended to establish a pilot
experience whose results serve as starting to set
up an adequate collecting system for those waste
vegetable oils coming from domestic and catering
sector, and their chemical processing to produce
bio-fuel to be used in Valencias buses municipal
service

15PROJECT URBANBAT LIFE - Environment 2003
Integral management model of the liquid waste
from the fleet of Buses of the municipal
transport company in Valencia city
Budget 1,721,438.00 EUR (833,103.00 from LIFE
funds)
http//www.urbanbat.com
Programme LIFE-Environment www.europa.eu.int/comm
/environment/life
16Objectives
PROJECT URBANBAT
- To define, through the transfer and application
of BATs (Best available technologies), a waste
management model for the majority of liquid
residuals generated in the maintenance and
operation of a fleet of vehicles. Management
strategy for these residuals will consist of both
reducing environmental hazard and increasing life
span. This will take place at the very point of
generation, thus minimizing the need for an
external management. - To deal with most of the liquid residuals
generated as cab washing waters, motor washing
waters, waters from rinsing of cooling circuits,
cooling fluids, brake fluids and acids from
exhausted batteries. - Not only defining this model, but demonstrating
its inmediate extrapolation from the fleet of
urban collective vehicles in Valencia to any
urban transport organisation and/or transport
fleets, as well as to other activities with
similar problems.

19Objectives
PROJECT BIOVID
- To improve air quality and to control the quality
of the air by means of a system of indicators and
measurement stations. - To introduce a new method for the waste
management of vine shoots, turning them into a
raw material by means of an innovative process
Cellulose extraction. The process will lead to
the production of a paste to manufacture paper
which is 100 ecological, and includes an
exceptional recovery system of re-usable lignin. - To use the remaining waste of the BIOVID process
as an organic material for composting, as well as
for agriculture, gardens and for recovering
degraded soils. - To reduce the wood consumption for paper
manufacture. To carry out a dissemination
campaign and to comply with European and local
environmental legislation.

deployment of telecommunication networks based
services (e-services) with a trans-European
dimension. It focuses strongly on public

To deploy a service through Europe for monitoring
the management Security that increases the
collective protection of people, goods and
environment by means of the effective sharing of
the resources of the Information and

dedicated so much to the prevention as to the
response capacity, without damage of the privacy.

Programme e-TEN http//europa.eu.int/information_
society/activities/eten/index_en.htm
38Objectives
PROJECT e-SEVESO
- To make the administration services (mainly those
at local level) more accessible to the people
that could benefit from them industries, local
residents. e-Seveso is a tool that will help to
implement regulations and voluntary codes. - To apply Seveso II Directive on major accidents
hazards on certain industrial activities,
e-Seveso applies equally to those industries that
handling or not dangerous substances, falling or
not within any directive, want to add or improve
preventive measures for their industrial
security. - To be specially suitable for SMEs with scarce
means (human, economic) for accessing any
costly/private security system. Most of these SME
industries are allocated inside Industrial Parks
or industrial districts, where special
requirements frequently arise from the often (if
not in all cases) close proximity of the
establishments and their interconnectedness. The
danger of the domino effect prevails in this
situation.
