1Literature Circle Extension Project
- Poems and pictures of Mishas life in the Warsaw
Ghetto
By Madelyn Sutcliffe Language Arts and
Technology Fall 2006 Professor Susan Silverman
2The Wall Standing upright Ever vigilant Locked
by day Free at night Searching for life Hiding
from death Making no noise Holding my
breath Free as a bird But chained by love As
angels stand by Stone eyes from above
3The Ride Twirling swirling keeping stride Horses
whirling side by side Round and round through
cold and snow Greedy eyes watch the show Girls
with gold hair They gaze and they stare At boy
with brown skin, brown eyes and brown hair Always
a watcher Never a ride Beautiful swift
mount With cold dead eyes
4Family Never belonging, never knowing Fathers
laugh, mothers sewing Names for all, but not for
you Unwanted, unkempt, not even a Jew Fertile
soil, but never grow Lots to eat, no weeds to
hoe Then rocky soil, but faces smile Open arms to
embrace a child The flower blooms In conditions
bare During cold dark months A family to share
5Jackboots Deceit in leather Straight and tall
Ever gleaming, ever shining Long way to
fall Power emitting Authority untold Seducing a
nation By actions so bold Evil in word Loyalty
abounds They march in time Rhythmic in sound
