Todays ENERGY needs are mostly met by Coal, Oil

FEW FACTS1. India has one percent of the
worlds energy resources, but is home for
16 of worlds population.2. Indias
oil production is about 30 of its
consumption. 3. Crude oil imports doubled in 4
years by volume and 400 times by value.4.
LIMITED AVAILABILITY OF FOSSIL FUELS

CONSERVATION
  • In short, CONSERVATION means using optimum energy
for carrying out a specific work without
    affecting the quality of work.
  • ENERGY CONSERVATION is an objective to which
every citizen can contribute whether it is a
household, factory, agriculture, transport or a
    shop.
  • Since the energy consumption per capita in our
country is very low, only small efforts by many
will make a real impact, rather than big efforts
    by a few.

14
How to Achieve this Objective
  • Conservation is an inborn Instinct. This Instinct
has to awakened and honed to be implemented in
  • day to day use, until it becomes a HABIT

15
CONSERVATION CAN BE ACHIEVED IN MANY WAYSBY
IMPROVING ENERGY EFFICIENCYUSING RENEWABLE
ENERGY AND FOLLOWING REUSE, REDUCE RECYCLE
16
USE SOLAR PRODUCTS
  • Solar Water Heater
  • Solar Lantern
  • Solar Cooker
  • Solar Photovoltaic

FIRST STEP TOWARDS CONSERVATION
18
ENERGY CONSERVATION TIPS for the KITCHEN
19
CONSERVATIONIN THE KITCHEN
20
THE FIRST STEP FOR
CONSERVATION OF LPG
IS TO 1. Note down the date of
installation/use of the cylinder.2. Note
down the date of completion of cylinder. 3.
Calculate the number of days of use.4. Do this
exercise for a year to arrive at the average
consumption period for a cylinder.
21
COOKING
  • Most houses in the urban areas use LPG
(Liquefied Petroleum Gas) for cooking. It is
estimated that there is scope for up to 30
reduction in consumption by adopting a few simple
    habits.
  • Energy Savings by using LPG can be
  • achieved from
  • - Cooking Process - Maintenance
  • Cooking Aids - General
  • GAS IS PRECIOUS SAVE IT

22
Conservation TIPS - KITCHEN
  • Organised Cooking. Save up to 20
  • Pressure Cooking. Save 20-40

23
Conservation TIPS - KITCHEN
  • USE OPTIMUM WATER QUANTITY, TO IMPROVE TASTE
    SAVE FUEL.

24
Conservation TIPS - KITCHEN
  • Use Small Burner
  • Use Lower Flame.
  • Savings to 6-10

25
Conservation TIPS - KITCHEN
  • SOAKING GRAINS
  • BEFORE
  • COOKING
  • REDUCES FUEL

26
Conservation TIPS - KITCHEN
  • COVERING WITH LID
  • SAVES FUEL

27
Conservation TIPS - KITCHEN
  • BRING REFRIGERATED FOOD TO AMBIENT
TEMPERATURE BEFORE USING IT FOR HEATING OR
    COOKING..

28
Conservation TIPS - KITCHEN
  • USE CLEAN VESSELS
  • DIRT IS AN OBSTRUCTION TO HEAT FLOW

29
Conservation TIPS - KITCHEN
  • Use always vessels that are better conductors of
    heat
  • Copper is the best conductor of heat and 10
times faster than stainless steel and twice that
    of aluminium.
  • Containers can change the flavor of the food
    cooked

30
Conservation TIPS - KITCHEN
  • The Stove burners should be cleaned regularly.

31
Conservation TIPS - KITCHEN
  • Eating together SAVES FUEL.
  • Eating Salads/ Raw Vegetables SAVES FUEL.
  • Eating SPROUTED FOOD SAVES FUEL gives more
    NUTRITION

32
COOKING PROCESS 1. Organized Cooking. Save up
to 20 2. Pressure Cooking. Save 20-40 3.
Optimum Water Quantity. Improves taste 4. Using
Small Burner/Low Flame. Saves 6-10 5. Soaking
Grains. 6. Covering with Lid. 7. Bring
Refrigerated Food to Ambient Temperature. 8.
Ensure vessels are dry from outside before
using. 8. Reduce flame when boiling starts. Saves
up to 30
33
  • COOKING AIDS
  • Auto Ignition Regulator Knobs for stoves.
  • Have Stoves with variable burner sizes.
  • Shallow Wide Vessels
  • Stainless steel with Copper Bottom or Aluminum.
  • MAINTENANCE
  • USE Clean Vessels
  • The Stove burners should be cleaned regularly.
  • GENERAL
  • Eating Together
  • Eating Raw Vegetables/Fruits

LIGHTING
  • Lights and fans consume major part of the energy
used in our houses. Increasing lighting
efficiency proper ventilation is one of the
fastest ways to reduce power bills.
  • Use maximum Natural Light Ventilation.
  • Use CFLs or
  • T5 Fluorescent Tube Lights
  • (energy efficient)

38
APPLIANCES1. REFRIGERATOR2. MICROWAVE OVEN
39
REFRIGERATOR
  • 1. Consumes about 2 kwh every day. Take extra
    care to generate energy savings.
  • 2. Place 6 to 12 from the wall.
  • 3. Place it in a cool area.
  • 4. Clean coils from dust.
  • 5. Open door to the minimum
  • 6. Do not open the door frequently. Saves Cooling
  • 7. Defrost as soon as 1 cm thick ice is formed.
  • 8. Place items when they attain ambient
    temperature.
  • 9. Cover all containers.
  • 10. Use Energy efficient auto defrost models.

40
  • MICROWAVE OVEN
  • Always use the Oven to its full capacity.
  • Plan accordingly.
  • Load unload the Oven as quickly as
  • possible to avoid heat loss.
  • A microwave is an energy efficient
  • appliance as it requires less time to
  • cook/reheat.
  • Always switch of the Microwave from
  • the mains after use.

41
PHANTOM LOAD
  • ANY HOUSEHOLD APPLIANACE THAT HAS A CLOCK, TIMER,
MEMORY OR REMOTE IS CONSUMING ELECTRICITY, EVEN
IF ITS TURNED OFF LIKE THE MICROWAVE OVEN
  • REMEMBER TO SWITCH OFF SUCH APPLIANCES FROM THE
    MAIN SWITCH.
  • EVEN SLEEP MODE CONSUMES ABOUT 7 ENERGY.
