What is SERDP
  • Go to www.serdp.org
  • The Strategic Environmental Research and
Development Program (SERDP) is the Department of
    Defenses (DoD) corporate environmental research
and development (R and D) program, planned and
executed in full partnership with the Department
of Energy (DOE) and the Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA), with participation by numerous
    other Federal and non-Federal organizations.
Within its broad areas of interest, the Program
    focuses on Cleanup, Compliance, Conservation,
    Pollution Prevention, and UXO technologies.

3
Thrust Areas
  • SERDP Thrust Areas
  • The  SERDP Program is composed of the following
    Thrust Areas Cleanup, Compliance, Conservation,
    Pollution Prevention, and Unexploded Ordnance
(UXO). Each year, the Program Office, with the
assistance of the Technology Thrust Area Working
Groups (TTAWG) and Executive Working Group (EWG),
determines the funding balance between these five
Thrust Areas. The figures below describe the
distribution of appropriated funds to specific
    Thrust Areas in recent years.

Organization SERDP Structure
  • SERDP is managed by a Council of 12 members --
    the Executive Director (non-voting), 6
representatives from DoD, 3 from DOE, 1 from EPA,
and 1 from Coast Guard -- with a senior
representative from DoD and DOE alternating
    annually as the Council Chair.
  • The Executive Director manages the day-to-day
aspects of the Program. To assist the Council and
the Executive Director, SERDP relies on its
Executive Working Group (EWG) and its Technology
Thrust Area Working Groups (TTAWGs, one for each
Thrust Area). The current  SERDP Council and EWG
members are listed below. SERDP also solicits the
advice of a Scientific Advisory Board (SAB),
which is mandated by law to review all proposals
requesting 1M or more for any one year. In
practice, the SAB has reviewed SERDP proposals
requesting in excess of 900K and all new start
    projects.
