I dont want to hurt anybodys feelings by
making fun of our Ritual . . .
- Jack Mason, 1913

From the moon we receive light after the sun has
set. ... The time for beginning great things is
at the new moon!
- Cole Ritual, 1912
This may be very pretty as a local farming
superstition, but as the teaching of a college
fraternity it is pure bosh.

What analogy is there between the words civil,
common and neutral? Might we not just as well say
high, low and Hungarian, or physical, mental and
pug-nosed? A mystery is something which ... is
made to transcend the understanding. It is not
something which defies the understanding by being
plain nonsense. - Jack Mason, 1913

Buried seeds wake to life in darkness and send
up their germs seeking Heavens sunlight.
Wherever you go, whatever you do, aim to do
good. You have come into Lambda Chi Alpha with
clean hands, to nourish the peace of this
zeta. - Cole Ritual, 1912

As a grand finale the wonderful, mystical
letters ??? are explained to him. He is then
given water. This is a most useful precaution,
and should reflect great credit on the writer of
our ritual. A man who has just learned what
Lambda Chi Alpha stands for needs water about as
badly as anyone I know.

If you dont mind, I shall lay down a few ideals
for us to steer by.
- Jack Mason
Do not feel at all sensitive about picking that
Ritual or any part to pieces as I am with you in
any idea that you have for Lambda Chi Alphas
good. -

As for myself I am somewhat disappointed that a
better piece of work has not been accomplished
upon the Ritual. The first degree I consider to
be about the right kind of stuff. The second is
good but not enough of it to work it out a bit
stronger and more impressive than the first. The
third was gotten up in a hurry and it shows it
when one sits down alone and reads it over. It
is the best that can be done however, and I am
pleased to think it is ready to be sent out to
the Zetas. I honestly believe we have a
wonderful teaching for a fraternity Ritual. I
also hope that when we call in the Rituals next
year that we can enlarge upon it a bit.

I wish myself that we had something better in
Ritual. This will carry us over one year,
though, and we can fix up something. The 3rd
Degree, both the one we did in New York and the
one I did at Block Island, are cluttered up. The
underlying ideas or teachings are good enough for
anyone. You, Dyer and Robbie did good work and
for the time at our disposal I think we did quite
as well as could be expected.

Almighty Father, creator of heaven and earth, we
beseech Thee to be with us. Bless our circle and
the Aspirants who stand in our midst to be tried.
We ask Thee to give them courage, to endow them
with prudence and wisdom, that they may be true
and faithful Brothers of Lambda Chi Alpha all the
rest of their lives. Amen.
