Was the Propaganda Really Effective?By Roya
Fazelnia
  • During World War Two, the Office Of War
Information, (OWI) put out newsreels that
promoted the nursing corps. Each newsreel was
carefully put together with a lot of editing to
make sure they got a lot of nurses. What the
O.W.I wanted was more women in the war effort, so
all the newsreels were filmed in a positive view
of the nurses. In stead of the public taking the
ads as a good thing, they thought the ads gave
the public a bad view of war nurses.
  • The newsreels showed the men fighting, training,
or doing some kind of work, while the nurses rode
in Jeeps with chauffeurs, wearing nice clothes.
They were usually filmed putting on make-up,
wearing clean, white clothing, or talking and
laughing as if there was no work to be done. When
the newsreels did showed the nurses working they
seemed to suggest that their exercises were just
a distraction from their vacation. That is why
the people were mad. The women didnt get a lot
of respect back then either so the newsreels just
    made it worse.

Women Spies of the War
  • By Laura Howard
  • Women spies of World War 2. Youve got to
love them ,right? Only one question. Why have
women instead of men? Well, I think that it was
because they were not suspected as much as men.
Some of the greatest women spies were Violette
Szabo, Marthe Richer, Calimity Jane, Anne
Boleyn, and Louise de Querouaille. Belle Boyd
was also a female spy, but she is probably one of
the most remembered because she was a teenager,
arrested six times, imprisoned twice, and almost
got executed or killed. Her nickname was Siren
of Shenandoa and she got in the army by shooting
    a northern soldier.
  • These fantastic women of the war are the
reason why girls can wear pants and get jobs!!
Another great women spy was Violette Szabo. She
was a beautiful and loyal woman. For example,
when she became a spy after her French husband
died, Violette was only on her second run when
she ran into the Nazi soldiers. Even though she
gave a cover shot so her French contact could
escape,- which he did she got executed. See?
These women are amazing! We should stop and
appreciate them more often. Rock on!!

Women At HomeHome Front
  • By Mary Macera
  • When the men went to war in World War 2,
guess who had to watch the kids? Six million
women are who and they did more than change
diapores. Because all factories were begging for
help 10 of women were employed by factories but
the figure was now up to 30 by 1944. This wasnt
all the women took action in though. They also
    became streetcar conductors, taxicab drivers,
business managers, and railroad workers. Fun,
huh? Well the number of female workers rose by
    50 from 12 million to 18 million .

Rosie the Riveter
  • So whos their representor, their icon, the one
who the famine looked up to? Rosie the Riveter is
who. She represented all the women who
manufactured plants which produced munitions and
material during World War 2 while the men were
fighting. She is also the symbol for women
    workers in the American defense.
  • Rosie the Riveter is now considered a feminist
    icon in the US.
  • So since the women were now work-alcohlics there
pay must have been well, right?
  • Acually No! Pay was not always equal . ( An
average man was paid 54.65 per week women were
    paid 31.21 per week.)
  • Conditions were poor, however, women quickly
responded to Rosie the Riveter, who convinced
them that they had a duty to enter the workforce.
