The Different Parts of the Legislative Branch

• Congress of the United States
• The Senate
• House of Representatives

Congress of the United States

• Power to lay and collect taxes, duties, imposts
  and excises
• Power to borrow money on the credit of the U.S.
• Power to coin money

• Power to pay debts and provide for the common
  defense and general welfare of the U.S.
• Power to establish post offices and post roads
• Power to declare war

Qualifications of House of Representatives

• Attain age of 25 years
• Citizen of United States for 7 years
• When elected, can not be an inhabitant of that
  state in which he shall be chosen

Qualifications for Senate

• Attain age of 30 years
• Citizen of United States for 9 years
• When elected, can not be an inhabitant of that
  state for which he shall be chosen

Senators and Representatives

• Both receive a compensation for their services
• Both in all cases, except treason, felony and
  breach of peace, be privileged from arrest during
  their attendance at the session
• Shall not, during the time for which he was
  elected, be appointed to any civil office under
  the authority of the United States
