- Alcoholism is a chronic disease with genetic
psychosocial and environmental factors
influencing its development and manifestations. - It is characterized by impaired control over
drinking, preoccupation with alcohol, use of
alcohol despite adverse consequences, and
distorted thinking (e.g., denial).
