Title: Remembrance Day
1Remembrance Day Wednesday November 11 2009 On
November 11th in 1918 at 11.00am, the 11th hour
of the 11th day of the 11th month, the First
World War came to an end. Much of the war had
been fought in dug-out trenches across Belgium
and France. It is thought that about 9 million
soldiers lost their lives and about 27 million
were wounded, many of them permanently disabled.
Ever since 1918 we use November 11th to
remember all victims of war. Not only the
soldiers and civilians who died in the First
World War but also those who continue to lose
their lives everyday due to conflict. During
the minutes silence, let us spend some time
thinking of those who are involved in war,
whether it be people in the army, the navy or the
air force or the people who live in countries
where there is conflict. We pray that they find
the strength to never give up hope that one day
we will live in a world where there is peace
God of mercy, maker of love and peace. Banish
war from our world and wipe away our
tears. Protect us from terror and violence and
keep us safe from weapons of hate Help us to
establish love, justice and peace and so live
truly as your holy people We pray in the spirit
and in the name of Jesus the Lord Amen
