  Sunday and would be able to start implementing on
  Monday

Image Backup

• Makes a duplicate of the computers hard drive.
  Includes
• Windows
• Applications
• Customizations
• Data that is stored on the drive
• Everything, its a complete and exact copy

• Requires
• A Backup Application (lt100), such as
• Acronis TrueImage (www.acronis.com)
• Norton Ghost (www.symantec.com)
• A place to put it
• Portable USB Hard Drive (lt200)
• Western Digital Passport Drive
• Maxtor OneTouch
• Network Share (Free?)

Image Backup

• Implement the solution
• Schedule the back to run automatically and
  unattended overnight
• Make a recover CD and be sure it works. Keep the
  CD handy
• Validate the backup periodically to make sure its
  getting done and is readable
• Make sure people are aware the solution is in
  place

• Be prepared for a recovery before it happens
• Who will you call for help (if needed)
• Know how to use the software
• Boot to the recovery CD
• Select Recover a drive
• Select the drive to re-image
• Select the backup file
• Click go (and pray)
• Reboot when complete, and you are back in business

• Caveats
• You need to restore to identical hardware
• You can adapt to new hardware, but its trickier
  and requires Universal Restore module
• The more data on the drive, the longer it takes
• Portable drives need to connect using fast USB
  2.0 (really old PCs have slow USB 1.1)
• You can usually add a USB 2.0 card to an old PC

• For Servers too!
• Server versions of the same software
• They understand complicated RAID array setups
• Costs more (lt1,000)
• Takes longer since there is usually more data
• Saves you more if there is a disaster
• Probably not a DIY project
• Consider your databases (SQL, Exchange, others)
• Test recovery process works with your hardware

• Sizes have Increased
• Resolutions have Increased
• Prices have Decreased
• Quality has Improved
• Clearly the current standard
• Tubes are history now
• Many, many choices, not all are best for you

• Resolution
• How many pixels does a monitor have
• Width x Height (i.e. 1024 x 768)
• Megapixels (1024 x 768 786,432 0.79mp)
• More is not always better
• Consider the size of the display and the distance
  you are sitting from it
• Larger Low Res screen far away appears the same
  as a Smaller Hi Res screen close up
• A laptop with a 15 screen and a very high
  resolution 1920x1280 UWXGA screen (2.5mp) is very
  hard to use.
• Icons, fonts, menus dont magically adjust to
  keep a correct relative size as resolutions
  increase

• A 30 Computer LCD will be a much higher
  resolution than a similar 1080p LCD TV
• Not all large format TVs (LCD or Plasma) are good
  choices for use with a computer
• Must have a VGA or DVI connector
• TVs come in many resolutions

• Aspect Ratio Gotchas
• Distortion if you dont set them right
• Choose a resolution that matches your monitor
• Video card might now work with monitor
• A modern card most likely will
• Software application might not support it
• Check in advance
• You cant mirror dual monitors properly unless
  they have the same ratio
• Wider is not a guaranteed utopia
• Seems like Wider is where everything is going

1280 x 960 Resolution and aspect just right
1280 x 768 Aspect Ratio is wrong
