Title: Effort for Installation and Testing

1
Effort for Installation and Testing
  • Attempt to collect information from previous
    talks
  • Web shift list has been established (Dave
    Robinson) http//www.hep.phy.cam.ac.uk/si-bin/sctw
    orkplanner.cgi
  • Natural to extend this pool of ad-hoc SCT
shifters to cover future installation testing
    where little training is needed
  • Also need experts to coordinate (and sometimes
    do) work
  • I will give very rough estimates of the numbers
of shifts, scaling from Sandras needs for Type
    IV

2
Type IV cables
  • Sandra Ciocio and Petr Kubik working full time
  • Shift list seems to be working for testing
  • Big problem to organise putting on connectors in
    situ.
  • Try the solution of an external company proposed
    by Marzio Nessi.
  • Do any SCT institutes have qualified technicians
who could come to work at CERN for a few months
    to make connectors?
  • Do we appeal to other ID institutes (eg. TRT
    institutes)
  • Sandra estimates 600 shifts
  • These are 3 hour shifts. Two people in a team, so
600 shifts correspond to 150 days.

3
PP3
  • Shaun Roe and Igor Ilyashenko will do testing at
CERN, with help from Pamela Ferrari and Ewa
    Stanecka for setting up (CERN)
  • Ashley French (Melbourne) coming on 1 October for
installation (for how long?). Occasional help
from SR1 technicians for mechanics, when Ashley
    isnt here.
  • Igor will also be available to help with
    installation.
  • Tests in situ will add a new task to the list of
    the cable testers.
  • Remains to be seen how easily one PP3 card can be
swapped, if there is a problem!
  • Testing PP3 in rack 200 shifts

4
Type II/III cables, dPP1
  • Need qualified technicians to install dPP1, and
to supervise connector type II end.
  • Sandra/Piotr should be able to supervise
    connecting/testing at PP3 racks.
  • Will continue to need rotating shift crew for
    tests
  • Still need to understand connection sequence and
test procedure MUCH more delicate if we have to
test double harness, just from PP1 end.
  • Acceptance test (do we do it?) 100 shifts
  • Tests after installation (if double harness)
    200 shifts
  • Tests of cables from PS to dPP1 after connection
    at PP3 300 shifts

5
Power supplies
  • Assume Jan Bohm, Jan Stastny and colleagues will
    provide staff, as before.
  • No additional shifts needed to test power
    supplies
  • Will also need detailed checks of mapping. DPP1
are supposed to have an LED incorporated, so
visual checks of what switches on can be made.
This might use the ad-hoc shifters as
    assistants.DCS/PS system tests 100 shifts

6
DAQ/ROS, fibres
  • John Hill listed the UK people available for
    installation and testing
  • Fibre testing can not be done by ad-hoc shifters
will need a few trained people (probably also
    from UK)

7
DCS
  • See Pamelas talk
  • Testing to be done by Richard Brenner, Pamela,
    Heidi
  • Assume they need one ad-hoc shifter to assist
    an additional (3hour, 1person) 30 shifts

8
Cooling, heaters, HEX
  • See Steve McMahons talk.
  • Relying on the ad-hoc shifters for cable testing
during installation. Total of 700 cables.
  • Pixel institutes should also contribute here
  • 100 testing shifts

9
Tally of testing shifts needed
  • These are 3 hour, 1 person shifts. Usually they
work in teams of two people, or assist an expert.
  • They must have access to the pit training
course to level 3, hard hat, safety shoes
  • Shift list totals dont take into account the
uneven load on institutes for more expert
    installation tasks

Type IV cables 600
PP3 tests 200
Type II/III cables and dPP1 600
Power Supply DCS system tests 100
DAQ/ROS (experts only) 0
DCS cables 30
Heater cables 100
Total (rough estimate) 1630
