3PURPOSE
To demonstrate the efficacy of Neosonix used
alone in phacoemulsification surgery for grade I
II of cataract.
4METHODS
Prospective study of a group ( n 30)Age
35-45yrs. Divided into 2 equal groups
Group I Patients with grade I cataract. Group
II - Patients with grade II - II
cataract. Patients having ocular deformities or
any other ocular disease were excluded. Stop and
chop method was used. Only neosonix was used for
sculpting and fragmentation. Maximum vacuum used
was 260 mm of Hg. Ultrasonic energy was used as
and when required.
5In Group I ,where patients had Grade I
cataracts, only Neosonix could emulsify the
cataracts completely. At no stage ultrasound had
to be used.
6In GroupII, patients having Grade II- II
cataracts, the central nucleus is dense and
neosonix alone could not emulsify this portion,
therefore, minimal ultrasonic energy had to be
used during sculpting. Following the completion
of sculpting and division of the nucleus into two
halves, fragment removal could be completed
using Neosonix only. It can be observed that even
the dense yellow central nuclear fragments, which
required ultrasound during sculpting, could be
emulsified easily using Neosonix only. ( Video

8RESULTS
The mean age of the patients was 40yrs. (SD 3.52 )
9DISCUSSION
Neosonix Oscillation at 20 on either side at
100 Hz. - Energy delivered is mechanical
energy only.
What it does -Uses mechanical energy for
breaking nucleus -Covers a larger area as it
oscillates -Enhances followability
10CONCLUSION
NEOSONIX ONLY is totally effective in
phacoemusification of Grade I cataract and is
either totally effective or markedly reduces the
use of ultrasonic energy in Grade II and II
cataract, minimising damage to the ocular
tissues.
