What is Academia?
  • Academia is a European project funded through the
    Leonardo da Vinci Programme
  • The project offers one week placements in other
    European countries
  • Academia is known as Guidance Exchange in the
    United Kingdom

What Does Guidance Exchange Offer?
  • A one week placement in one of 14 European
    countries
  • Each placement varies from country to country but
    previous themes have included
  • Counselling expertise along life courses in
    Finland
  • Integration of ethnic minorities the function
    of guidance Danish initiatives
  • World or work Labour market information in
    Estonia
  • An introduction to guidance in a Swedish middle
    sized town

History of Academia
  • Academia was first run in 1997
  • Originally we offered placements in only 4
    different countries
  • Academia is co-ordinated by a French organisation
    (originally Académie de Créteil) and currently
    (Académie Strasbourg)

History of Academia in the United Kingdom
  • Careers Europe have run Academia placements since
    1997 and over the last 12 years we have sent over
    250 Guidance Counsellors and P.A.s on placements
  • We have hosted over 150 European Guidance
    Counsellors in the United Kingdom on in the last
    12 years

What Does Careers Europe Pay For?
  • We use the Leonardo da Vinci funding to cover the
    following costs
  • Flights
  • Travel insurance
  • Hotel, food and drink
  • The level of the subsistence grant to cover food,
    drink and hotel varies from country to country

  • A good opportunity to exchange ideas and best
    practice
  • Increased knowledge of guidance in several other
    countries
  • Increased enthusiasm for Europe
  • Good opportunities for networking

How Do I Apply?
  • You must complete an Application Form and get a
    letter of support from your employee
  • Application Forms, Applicant Guidelines and a
    Sample Letter of Support can be found on our
    website at www.careerseurope.co.uk
  • The deadline for applications is 15 November
  • We aim to contact successful applicants before
    Christmas
