Mobility Facts and Figures

• This proportion has hardly changed in the last 30
  years
• Around 1.5 of EU-25 citizens live and work in
  another country
• Every second person in the EU speaks at least one
  other language
• 34 of Europeans speak English
• Without inflows of labour many regions will face
  shortages of skilled labour
• EU10 nationals represent fewer than 1 of the
  working age population in all countries except
  Austria and Ireland

A8 Migration and the UK labour Market

• A DWP report found
• No discernible statistical evidence to suggest
  that A8 migration has been a contributor to the
  rise in claimant unemployment in the UK
• Employment is up by 4 million to a new record. We
  have the highest employment rate of the G8
  economies
• The latest Home Office report shows that A8
  migrants are going where the work is and helping
  to fill gaps in our labour market
• There has been very little evidence of A8
  migrants claiming benefits
• A8 migrants are helping to fill gaps in our
  labour market
