  • Was born in 106 BCE
  • He was born to a wealthy family
  • His birth name was Gnaeus Pompius Magnus, after
    his father, Gnaeus Pompius Strabo
  • He was married 4 times, including Julia Caesa.r

Pompeys Career
  • He started as a young military general
    controlling 3 legions in 84 BCE
  • He was known first as the teenage butcher
  • He later became a consul with Crassus in 70 BCE
  • Along with Caesar and Crassus, he started the
    first Triumvirate in 60 BCE.

  • Clearing the pirates off of the Mediterranean in
    67-66 BCE
  • Conquering Asia Minor and Syria, coming back in
    61 BCE
  • Helping Sulla to fight Marius in Italy in 89 BCE
  • Taking control of the Mithradates rule in 65-62

Fighting for Sulla
  • Pompey started his real military career as a
    helper for Sulla in 83 BCE
  • He fought against Marius, in Italy.
  • The teenage butcher, went off to Spain right
    after Sullas death.

Being a Consul
  • Pompey became a consul in 70 BCE.
  • Crassus was the other consul.
  • Pompey and Crassus werent legally qualified for
    their positions.
  • The Senate disapproved their intensions.

The Triumvirate
  • Pompey, Caesar, and Crassus became the first
    Triumvirate in 60 BCE
  • Their intensions were to control Rome with 3
    people.
  • While Caesar and Crassus were out fighting,
    Pompey stayed and helped on the home front.

The Hard Task
  • Pompey was told to sweep the pirates off of the
    Mediterranean Sea
  • He divided the Mediterranean into 3 sections,
    having armies posted at each one of them.
  • Left with 20,000 captives
  • Sold them as slaves

Pompeys End
  • After Julia died in 54 BCE, and Crassus in 53
    BCE, Pompey and Julius fought for dictatorship
  • In 48 BCE Pompey and his army went to Battle of
    Pharsalus.
  • The younger one, Caesar, won.
  • Pompey was killed in Egypt on September 28, 48
    BCE.

Pompey Most Political
  • Pompey wanted power and honor so much that he
    became a military man as a teenager.
  • He married Julia Caesar to be closer to Caesar,
    though did love her.
  • He later told the Senate that Caesar was bad, to
    have the power.
  • All his life Pompey strived to be best by being
    in a Triumvirate, and a military general, and a
    great person.
