Introduction

• From 1550 until 1850, hats were fashionable in
  much of Europe.
• In North America fur trade became a new source
  and kept the fashion for another 200 years.

• It is a felt hat.
• has two kinds of hairs on it
• (short, thick, soft wooly layer and long coarse).

• fashion for men women
• used for trading

• beaver fur

How did it assist in the fur trade ?

• the owners were in business to make a profit
• the fur trade was a business

Is it still in use today ?

• YES, SOME PEOPLE STILL USE IT TODAY
• THE HATS REIGN ENDED IN THE LATE 1830s AND
  1840s
• in 1830S and 1840s they turned to the less
  expensive silk hat
