What Does Open Source Mean?

• Open source software is software in which the
  source code is freely distributable. If you have
  really good coding skills, then you could
  participate in some open source projects.
• Examples
• Linux (operating system)
• Firefox (web browser)

How it gets started

• Many small projects get hosted at sourceforge.net
  because of the available tools they have.
• Many of these projects start off as small ones
  that most people dont know about. As more people
  get to know the projects, some decide to
  contribute some code whenever they have free time.

Differences between O.S.S and Closed source

• O.S.S
• Can modify the source code
• Completely free

• Closed Source
• Cant modify source code.
• Can be free, but no source code

Advantages of O.S.S

• You do not have to pay for it
• Many quality developers dedicated their time to
  make the software better.
• You can copy it, burn it, or do what ever you
  want because that is what the license allows you
  to do

• Making an open source project is a good way of
  getting quality and free software to users.
• Some people only use open source software when
  they use Linux.
