Injury Prevention
  • Most injuries in the LTP will be caused by lack
    of skill and will be minor in nature
  • As a leader, you should strive to minimize the
    chance of injury occurringparticularly injuries
    caused by faulty equipment or unsafe facilities
  • If we understand the causes of injuries, we can
    think of ways to prevent them

Injury Prevention
  • Leaders should have a basic knowledge of First
    Aid
  • Get information on health status of your players
  • Check out facilities equipment
  • Dont force injured players back too soon
  • Be familiar with emergency procedures in the
    arena, the location of the 1st aid kit and
    telephone
  • Take care of minor injuries quickly so they dont
    become major ones
  • Check the players equipment to make sure it fits

  • Athletic supporter and cup
  • Garter belt (or equivalent)
  • Shin pads
  • Pants
  • Shoulder pads
  • Elbow pads
  • Helmet - approved

  • Face mask approved wire or clear plastic

  • Junior sized stick

Warm-up
  • Play a game
  • Get the body temperature up
  • Get the heart pumping
  • Get the blood flowing

On-Ice Safety
  • Make sure all doors are closed
  • Remove any foreign objects from the ice
  • Teach players how to fall
  • Ensure proper fitting equipment is worn
  • Instructor should wear a helmet
  • Dont permit horse play
  • Ensure shooting drills are conducted in a safe
    manner
