Rational Statement

• This lesson will allow students to practice using
  technology to do research on a planet in the
  solar system.

Goals and Objectives

• The students will work in cooperative groups to
  create a presentation.
• The students will research for information on a
  planet using the Internet or computer software.
• The students will complete a test on the
  information presented.

Assign Groups and Planet

• The student will first be divided into homogenous
  groups according to gender and ability.
• Each groups should have at least 2-3 students in
  it, depending on the size of class.
• The groups will be given a planet to research.
  The teacher can allow the group to choose their
  planet or assign each group a planet.

Review Internet Concepts

• How to navigate through a site should be
  reviewed, by teaching about the navigation bars,
  navigation tool and links.
• Supplying the students with a few web sites to
  get them started is a great idea. Here are a few

Review of software components

• Two pieces of software will be used to
  facilitate this lesson plan. Both are CD-roms
  which deal with the solar system and fitting
  perfectly with the lesson plan. Each one is a
  tutorial full of facts on the planets in the
  solar system. The student will be able to use
  these pieces of software to gather information
  about their own planet. The information located
  on the software would be much like the
  information they would find on the Internet. The
  students will use both the software and the
  Internet to gather information.

Evaluation

• The evaluation will be based upon the
  information on each planet found by the groups.

NET Standards for Students

• 5 Technology Research Tool
• The students will be using the Internet and
  computer software to research information on
  their assigned planet. The student will then use
  this information to present to the class. That
  is how they are using this standard.
• 1 Basic Operations and Concepts
• The students will be using the Internet and
  computer software in this lesson. They will show
  that they understand the nature and operation of
  the technology by collecting information. They
  will have to use the basic functions of the
  computer like navigating through program.

NET Standards for Teachers

• 1 Technology Operations and Concepts
• In this lesson, the teacher must be able to
  explain the different basic operations of
  technology software to the students. The teacher
  will need to explain how to navigate through a
  web site and how to use the navigation tools.
• 6 Social, Ethical, Legal and Human Issues
• The teachers in this lesson will make sure the
  students are using the computer for legal and
  ethical purposes. The teacher does this by
  monitoring what the students are searching for
  when using the Internet.

  Environments and Experiences
• The fact that the teacher is using this lesson
  plant to educate her students shows her use of
  this standard. It is the teachers responsibility
  to educate the students in many different ways.
  Technology being one of these ways. The teacher
  has designed developmentally appropriate learning
  opportunities to use technology through this
  lesson.

Indiana Standards

• 6.3.1 Compare and contrast the size, composition
  and surface features of the planet that
  compromise the solar system, as well as the
  objects orbiting them. Explain that the planets,
  except Pluto, move around the sun in nearly
  circular orbits.
• 6.3.3 Observe and describe the planets change
  their position relative to the background of
  stars.

• The lesson allow the students to use their
  creativity to produce a poster board
  presentation. It encourages the students to work
  together and use their problems solving skills to
  find the best way to present their poster boards.

  effective verbal, nonverbal, and media
  communication techniques to foster active
  inquiry, collaboration, and supportive
  interaction in the classroom.
• This lesson plan has students working
  cooperatively in a group to accomplish a common
  goal of finding information on a planet in the
  solar system. The students must communicate with
  each other and the teacher to accomplish the
  project.

  for 6th grade science. Therefore it applies to
