improve the quality of professional-technical
programs - Identify the industry skill standards that are
currently necessary for successful employment - Assist in keeping college curriculum current and
relevant by making recommendations that will
strengthen curriculum
6ROLE OF PROGRAM DIRECTORS AND FACULTY LEADS
- Articulate short-term and long-term goals and
objectives of the program using the External
Review, Program Planning and Assessment Reports,
and DACUMS - Support and strengthen the partnership between
education, business, labor, and the community
by providing well-trained workers for the
industry

8CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT
- Review labor market information to ensure that
your occupational program area is - In demand (job vacancies exist)
- Produces a family wage
- Review program curricula and courses
- Advise the college as to the industry skill
standards or certification required by the
occupational areas
9CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT
- Assist with the development of new programs
through the grant writing process - Provide letters of support for new grant
proposals - Recommend instructional practices that will
promote the development of safe instructional
environments
10CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT
- Inform programs of new methods, procedures,
products, equipment, and technologies - Participate in program evaluations made by
outside agencies (DACUMs and External Review) - Assist the program in accomplishing program goals
and in working on program challenges as
identified by the review processes
11FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT
- Evaluate equipment and facilities against
industry standards - Help obtain needed equipment and supplies on loan
or lease or at discounted prices
12STUDENT RECRUITMENT
- Speak in classrooms and at orientations
- Participate in career fairs
13STUDENT PLACEMENT
- Facilitate job shadowing and internship
experiences - Assist with conducting mock interviews and
critiquing resumes - Notify faculty and Career Employment Services of
job openings - Hire professional-technical graduates who reflect
desired skills - Provide feedback on the skills of graduates
14PUBLIC RELATIONS
- Increase awareness of professional-technical
education through the media and legislature - Introduce students and programs to civic and
service groups
- Assist in determining nominations for the WAVE
Scholarship (Washington Award for
Vocational Excellence)
15FACULTY DEVELOPMENT
- Arrange industry internships or back-to-industry
opportunities for faculty so that they may
upgrade their knowledge and skills
