- The sub region generally performs well against
the First Class Quality of Life indicators - It generally has good health, low crime, a wealth
of culture and heritage and deprivation is not as
prevalent as in other sub regions
10What are we doing well at?
11Life Expectancy
- Life Expectancy has increased within the sub
region since 1997-99. - The sub region has experienced a greater increase
than that seen at a regional level - Only Scarborough district doesnt exceed the
national average for this measure
12Crime Recorded Burglaries
13Crime Fear of Crime
- The sub region had the lowest levels of fear of
crime, below both regional and national averages. - 10 of respondents from York and North Yorkshire
were very worried about burglary. - This is the same percentage as the Humber despite
their recorded burglaries being twice that of
YNY.
14Where are we progressing in the wrong direction?
15Access to Services
- The only Advancing Together indicator which
demonstrates progress in the wrong direction is
Access to Services - The percentage of rural households less than 2km
from a primary school has declined by 18.1 since
2001/2.
16Where do we need to improve?
17Crime Recorded Robberies
- There has been no improvement in recorded
robberies per 1000 of the population from 2001/2
2004/5. - There are a number of other Advancing Together
indicators for which it is not possible to obtain
data at sub-regional level. - However in many instances there is other data and
measures which are included in the report.
18Good Governance and Civic Participation
19Advancing Together Vision
- Yorkshire Humber will possess and portray the
highest standards of governance in all sectors
and at all levels, and the highest levels of
civic participation in decision-making and
community life.
- This vision is measured by the following
indicators - Overall participation in local community
- Percentage of businesses with a mission or value
statement incorporating the concept of
responsible business practice - Both of these indicators are new so it is only
possible to provide a current baseline figure.
Progress will be measured in future years against
this baseline.

diverse topics - There is limited information on which to draw on
but progress will be continued to be monitored in
the future - Overall though the sub region performs well
24What are we doing well at?
25What are we doing well at?
- Whilst it is not possible to identify progress
against the Advancing Together indicators other
information demonstrates - Election turnout is high, exceeding both national
and regional averages - 10.3 of households in the sub region have one
adult who participates in the local community - Generally local authorities perform well in their
Comprehensive Performance Assessment. Only Selby
was rated weak
26Volunteering in Sport
of adults spending at least 1 hour/week on
voluntary sport work
27Where are we progressing in the wrong direction?
28Where are we progressing in the wrong direction?
- Whilst it is not possible to identify progress
against the Advancing Together indicators other
information demonstrates - The sub region despite having high rates of
participation in the local community has below
regional average rates for participation in
community regeneration - Hambleton is the only local authority rated
Excellent for CPA - The sub region has only 38 of businesses with a
mission or value statement incorporating business
practice compared to 42 regionally
29Questions and Discussion

make it usable for a wide audience?
